World record-breaking professional sailor, Mick Dawson, joined us for two events in August! Mick started his mini Network My Club event tour by speaking at the home of Brighton & Hove Albion FC, the Amex Stadium, for the Network Albion Business Club business networking breakfast on Thursday 1st. Then a week later, at Fratton Park – home of Portsmouth Football Club – at the Network Pompey Business Club.
Mick spoke to over 150 businesses about the world record-breaking 2,500-mile row across the North Pacific Ocean, which he completed with fellow former Royal Marine, Steve Sparkes, who is registered blind. The limitations of rowing the world’s largest oceans blind need no explanation, however, Mick expressed the importance of teamwork – if everyone in a team puts one another first, it’ll create an environment that leads to exceptional success. The voyage took 82 days to complete and put the pair in the record books as ‘Sparky’ became the first blind individual to row the Pacific.
